Cleaning that makes a difference.
The cleaning sector is often associated with low wages and poor working conditions. We wanted Upbeat Clean to be different. Upbeat Clean provides excellent service to our commercial clients while also paying a real living wage to our staff, providing mentoring opportunities and supported employment, and giving staff the flexibility to have a balanced family life. These are sadly all luxuries in the cleaning sector. We treat our staff as we would like to be treated and in doing so, see them shine in their work and lives. Today, we partner with over 50 organisations and have built a reputation for quality and reliability.
We were proud to receive the King’s Award for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity — the first cleaning company in the UK to receive this recognition. However, we don’t just want companies to choose our cleaning services because we are a social enterprise, we want to provide the best customer service. Every customer has a designated account manager who visits regularly to ensure that they receive the best service and experience the joy of having their offices cleaned exactly how they want it. At the same time knowing that their choice of cleaning service has made a real difference to families across Derby and Tees Valley.
Our story.
Upbeat Clean is a charity-owned commercial cleaning business that partners with companies that are looking for excellent cleaning and to make a difference in their community.
Upbeat Clean was established by Upbeat Communities who have served refugee communities in Derby for over 25 years, seeking to help people who have fled their countries rebuild their lives in Derbyshire.
Upbeat Communities was aware that refugee women, who have shown such resilience and bravery in supporting their families through traumatic events, often have a real challenge finding flexible work that fits around childcare. This often leads to years of unemployment and the serious challenges that come with that. After considering dozens of Social Enterprise opportunities, we started Upbeat Clean to provide flexible, ‘Real Living Wage’ employment that can help refugee women and others support their families and rebuild their lives.
Our team of hardworking cleaners is made up of dedicated individuals who take great pride in their work. From the moment they arrive at your office, they are focused on providing you with the highest level of service possible. Each member of our team has been carefully trained and supported to ensure that they have the skills, experience, and attitude needed to excel at what they do.

Expanding our impact across the UK.
While Upbeat Clean began in Derby, we are now expanding our impact nationally.
Over 2026 and 2027, we will be launching Upbeat Clean in multiple cities across the UK, working in partnership with carefully selected charities who share our values and our commitment to excellence.
This approach allows us to create more high-quality, Real Living Wage jobs — particularly for people from refugee backgrounds — while maintaining the same consistent, high standards our clients expect.
Each new location will follow the proven model we’ve built in Derby: reliable service, strong local leadership, and genuine care for both clients and staff.
