Cosy Direct Announces Partnership with Upbeat Clean | Celebrating the King’s Award for Enterprise

We want to thank Cosy Direct for generously sponsoring Upbeat Clean & Upbeat Communities as we celebrate an amazing achievement: winning the King’s Award for Enterprise.

Upbeat Clean proudly won the King’s Award earlier this year in recognition of its outstanding achievements promoting opportunity through social mobility.

Upbeat Clean currently provides over 40 businesses with excellent cleaning that changes lives in Derby. The King’s Award will continue to elevate our status, impact, and trust in the city so that even more businesses can become part of this vital mission to empower refugees through life-giving employment.

That’s why we’re so grateful to Cosy Direct for choosing to sponsor us so that we can invest growing the platforms we need to grow our social enterprise and our impact even further.

Employing 107 people, Cosy Direct was founded in 2011 by husband and wife team, Peter and Amanda Ellse. Cosy promotes a natural, engaged and active childhood by supplying sustainable nursery and educational equipment to 38 countries worldwide. Cosy is one of the few UK businesses that currently holds both a Queen’s Award and a King’s Award for their outstanding achievements in business.

Cosy are continually innovating and developing their product range with teacher-led research and play in mind. They are champions of nature and real-life childhoods, where children are encouraged to play and take part in adventurous activities that enable them to learn and develop whilst having fun.

We’re excited to partner with this amazing organisation, that so closly shares our values. Cosy gives 10% of its profits to charities and has a huge focus on supporting the community through the way the business runs including employing those are in prison and have come out of prison in order to help them to rebuild their lives.

The idea for the sponsorship was sparked during the King’s Award for Enterprise celebrations, when Peter Ellse drove Upbeat Clean’s founder Michael Gladwell to meet King Charles at Windsor Castle. That experience highlighted the importance of shining a light on organisations whose work strengthens communities.

Peter Ellse said:

“Upbeat Clean is more than a cleaning company – it’s a pathway to belonging, dignity and opportunity for refugees.
We are delighted to sponsor them, helping to share their story more widely and encouraging others to support their mission. This work also reflects the spirit of the Derbyshire Lieutenancy, who tirelessly champion organisations of every kind across our county.”

Michael Gladwell, Managing Director of Upbeat Clean, shared:

"We are so grateful for Cosy’s support. Our focus has always been on creating real jobs and a sense of belonging for people starting again in a new country. This sponsorship will help us shine a light on the incredible contribution that refugees are already making – and can continue to make – in this city. Cosy shares our belief in using business to transform lives and communities, so this is a perfect chance to partner around a common cause and encourage more people to get involved."
